among residents of the Yukon.
Confidence in ability to follow Guide
Individuals from the Yukon, Newfoundland, Alberta, British
Columbia, and the Northwest Territories are more likely than
the average Canadian to state their confidence in being able
to achieve 30 minutes of moderate physical activity on most
days.
Social norms and walking
Although there are no significant regional differences
in the proportion of individuals who say that family members
walk regularly; residents of the Yukon are more likely to
agree that most people they know walk regularly.
Barriers to physical activity
Residents of the Yukon and British Columbia are less likely
than Canadians overall to cite cost as an important barrier.
Long-term illness or disability and fear of injury are
less likely to be cited as a barrier to physical activity
in residents of the Yukon, Newfoundland and Labrador, and
Prince Edward Island.
Information outreach for increasing physical
activity
Those living in the Yukon are less likely than Canadians
overall to cite the importance of assistance in planning their
daily schedules to include physical activity in enabling them
to be more active.
Environments supporting physical activity
Residents from the Yukon and Quebec are more likely to
indicate that there are low cost facilities nearby.
Those living in the Yukon, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia
are less likely to agree that nearby shopping opportunities
exist.
The proportion agreeing that bicycle facilities exist in
their neighbourhood is higher among residents of the Yukon
and Quebec.
Those living in the Yukon are more likely than others to
report that accessible paths, trails and green spaces would
encourage their activity.
Attempts to become more active
Seeking information from family, friends or co-workers is
more common among residents from the Yukon, Newfoundland and
Labrador and the Territories.
